Chris Evans once again defends the MCU from his critics.  More than a year after he officially retired as Captain America in Avengers: Endgame, the actor remains closely associated with the franchise, which has played the role for almost 10 years on several films.  While Marvel Studios awaits the start of its phase 4 after the Infinity saga, everyone is waiting for how the film series will change without some of its most remarkable faces like Steve Rogers and Tony Stark / Iron Man (Robert  Downey Jr.) are gone.

Kicking off in 2008, Marvel studio chief Kevin Feige and his team risked everything to be able to produce their own films, starting with Iron Man by Jon Favreau.  The inaugural project was a resounding success, but Phase 1 was not without obstacles.  It really was via The Avengers of 2012 that solidified the MCU's place in Hollywood, proving that Feige could be on something.  Seven years later, Endgame fulfilled that promise of success with an epic blockbuster, becoming the most profitable film of all time.  Despite all of this, there are still those who aren't impressed with what Marvel Studios is capable of achieving.

Evans addressed recurring issues that some may have with the MCU in a new interview with THR's Chatter Awards podcast, while promoting his new Apple TV + project, Defending Jacob.  Confronted with the argument that superhero franchises and Marvel Studios by being the main provider are bad for cinema, the actor responded by stressing how easy it was to generalize by posting reviews like this one.  this.  While he admits that audiences can be used to the format of storytelling, he thinks the MCU is special.

Last year, veteran filmmakers Martin Scorsese and Francis Ford Coppola had harsh words to say when asked about the MCU - the former judging the franchise "not the movies", while the latter supported his fellow filmmaker  American-Italian.  It all exploded with franchise figures such as Robert Downey Jr., James Gunn, Joss Whedon and Samuel L. Jackson, as well as others in the industry who responded.  In the end, everyone decided to just agree to disagree.  Evans and Scarlett Johansson shared their two cents on this at the time, and these new comments are indeed based on what he said earlier.  It makes sense that Evans had great respect for what the MCU is capable of building, having been part of the process.  He has first-hand knowledge of what goes into creating movies and creating character stories.  So when they are well received, it is a testimony that they are doing something good.  For what it's worth, many have tried to copy Marvel Studios' narrative format for the past few years, but have failed - proving that building a series of interconnected movies is really not easy.

After the three phases of MCU, 23 movies and multiple copies, it's understandable that some are already tired of superheroes and franchises, but it's unfair to blame only Marvel Studios - after all, the public is still interested in their  movies.  That said, in order to be able to solve justified problems with the film series, they have to offer something very different in the future.  For the past 10 years, their established format has worked, but over time, even fans will lose interest if they don't offer something new.  People would just have to wait and see what they have in store for Phase 4.
